Recently, I was bullied, lied to, laughed at, and harassed by LA Fitness Manager, Ronald Jones at the St. Louis Park, MN club. I was told by LA Fitness District VP, Nick Hamden, that Jones said "I would rather be rich than right" when asked about my complaint against him. When I asked what this meant, Hamden explained that this statement is reflective of the LA Fitness salesperson philosophy. *** I want the community and other LA Fitness customers - especially women - to be aware of Jones' blatant bullying tactics and his harassing, insulting, and demeaning sexist behavior. *** In July 2010, I visited the St Louis Park LA Fitness club. Jones over-aggressively tried to sell me a monthly instead of weekly membership, lied to me about membership cancellation fees (later confirmed by LA Fitness Corporate) and tried to bully me to sign up that day. A week later I called the club to sign-up. Jones answered. I expressed my insult regarding his sales tactics. Jones began laughing at me and said, "What do you want me to do? Send you flowers?" This comment was condescending and sexist. It is doubtful that Jones would have made this comment to a man. Shocked by Jones' lack of professionalism, lack of acknowledgment, and insensitivity, I expressed again how insulted I was by being treated this way. Jones continued laughing and told me he was responsible for closing many memberships. *** As a corporate communications trainer and Communication Coach specializing in interpersonal skills, I am appalled that LA Fitness encourages this kind of behavior. (http://www.mazzacoaching.com/). *** I want to know how many other women have felt too uncomfortable to speak up and challenge Jones' unprofessional, aggressive sales tactics and sexist behavior. I want to know how many other people are also insulted to be paying membership dues to a club where they have been disrespected, harassed, and demeaned by Jones. This is a matter of money - and principal.
