Review 9/30/2011
After getting married, my wife wanted to find a dry cleaner for her wedding dress, a blush pink Vera Wang Farrah made from a layered French fabric. The dress was very special to her and expensive at a cost of $5,040. When she found Irvine Quality Discount Cleaners, she was initially impressed with some of the reviews that she read. She took the dress in and met with the owner. Concerned, she asked if he had cleaned wedding dresses in the past. He assured her that he had done many. His son was also there and affirmed that his dad was really good and that he personally cleaned them himself. My wife felt that she was in capable hands. No liability forms were signed. A few days later my wife had me pick up the dress and when she laid her laid eyes upon it they became wet with tears. Her heart sank and she broke down. Every single edge of the layering had become frayed. It looked as if the threading hand been purposefully unraveled. This had an enormous and detrimental effect. The once wide and flowing colored fabrics had become detached and shriveled into strings. They were hanging like nooses, lifeless. The overall appearance, once voluptuous, elegant, and airy had significantly shrunk. As if this was not enough, the plastic dry cleaning bag was stapled to dress. My wife was planning to keep this dress for her daughter one day and it now lay dead. This was incredulously careless work that seemed as if it came from a washer and dryer. I proceeded to photo document the damage and the results were wrenching. I then printed expanded images of both the damage and wedding photographs, and brought the dress invoice to the dry cleaner to confront the owner with before and after pictures. He had the audacity to tell me she brought the dress to him in its current condition, that he did not damage the dress, that my wife must have damaged it, and that is was my word against his. He asked me what I wanted him to do about it. I showed him a copy of invoice for $5,040. He said “take me to court.” First, I sought a resolution for $2,520 (the standard for these types of disputes is one half the original price) and no publicity complaints. He said he would think about it. After three days I called for an inquiry on his disposition for the settlement and he said, “I thought we were going to court?” I filed the court paperwork the same day and I will NEVER go back to these cleaners again!!
