Harbor Freight extensively advertises "free items" when other items are purchased.
These offers are distributed by mail, email and in-store handouts.
In very fine print (often totally illegible) is the condition that in-store quantities are limited.
When one tries to claim the free item, the staff will often explain that the allocated "free" stock has already been given out (even if the item is still in stock for regular sale).
The when pressed, the store manager will explain that company policy prevents him from offering a "rain check".
The most recently (9/6/11) happened to me at the Santa Maria, CA store (manager Richard Uribe). The item "out-of-stock" was a "Pittsburgh 60 Piece 3/8" and 1/4" Drive Socket Set", p/n 47902.
I accuse Harbor Freight of bad faith advertising.
