I recently inquired about the Background Screeners of America business. Prior to talking to anybody at the company, I did as much checking as I could and found comments about them on TrustLink. I was of course concerned that a couple of people had negative things to say about a person they had talked to at the company, but nevertheless I sent in an inquiry about the business. I have to admit that when I got a call from Jerry Foreman, the Vice-President of the firm, I was a bit wary based on what I had read. We were on the phone for about 10 minutes and we made an appointment to discuss it further the next day. Jerry called me and spent about 35 to 40 minutes on the phone with me explaining how the business works and answering questions I had. He was very informative, professional in his demeanor and was really quite nice to have a phone visit with. At the end of that initial call, I felt comfortable enough to ask him about the negative comments I saw. He explained to me that it happens once in a while that after spending time with a person; he realizes that they may not be right for the business and he tries to tell them that in a nice way and that it is never his intent to hurt or insult people. He went on to say that it could be that the person didn’t sound intelligent or speak well and that both of those qualities are requisites for this business. Or it could be that the person became difficult to work with on a personal level. He also told me of a man that he liked very much, but the man had a very heavy Eastern European accent. When he told the man that being difficult to understand would be a big hindrance to his success, the man thanked him for being honest and not trying to take his money, but rather to be fair and honest. After spending three times on the phone with Jerry, talking to references and seeing a demonstration of how a background screening is performed, I am very close to making a positive decision about this business. I think that at times people just get their feelings hurt when they are denied something and from what I see thus far, I am pleased to do something most people don’t do and that is write a positive comment about somebody. Like most people, I am quick to complain, but not always quick to praise somebody. I believe the praise is deserved in this case.
