Red Flags: avoid any company that promises to settle your debt if it:
• touts a “new government stimulus program” or “new laws” to bail out personal credit card debt
• guarantees it can make your unsecured debt go away
• tells you to stop communicating with your creditors
• tells you it can stop all debt collection calls and lawsuits
• guarantees that your unsecured debts can be paid off with pennies on the dollar
• requires that you pay most or all of the fee within the first few months

We have more info on the debt settlement industry's business and fee practices at:

I would read thru this if I were you and proceed carefully.

The sooner you can start getting debt relief the better. You can get into debt consolidation – where a company will condense your debt into a single monthly payment, or handle paying your creditors, or you are able to make a deal with your creditors yourself, and work out a payment plan, which they'll likely wish to work out with you. Getting into debt is all too easy – credit cards, mortgages, and so forth; it can send you running for payday advances just to keep up with payments easily, and that's why it benefits you to get some kind of http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2010/03/27/debt-management-started/">debt management sooner rather than later.

Hi June,
It is very important that you do your due diligence when shopping for a debt settlement company. There are only a handful of good companies to choose from.
If I were you I would log into New Era's web site www.neweradebt.com and print out the 14 questions to ask when shopping for debt settlement. There are pros and cons to debt settlement. There are a lot of red flags you need to be aware of. I would encourage you to do your homework.
I would also listen to the audio and video testimonials on the web site. These are from real people that went to New Era Debt Solutions for help. I am of course bias to New Era since I have been with them from the start. It is the mission of New Era to help people get out of debt as quickly and inexpensively as possible., and they’ve done it for thousands of people. New Era prides itself on excellent customer service and they earn their money based on performance and results. Please feel free to call me if I can answer any questions for you.
Best wishes.
Dan Smith

Screw New ERA Debt Solutions. I have a friend who had been working their a month. He was already doing better than most of their staff and had never been late, never left early and had not missed one day, he is just a stand up guy who believes in working hard and doing the best he can. His teenage son has a rare liver disease that makes monitoring his blood sugar closely very critical, well his son's levels shot up to life threatening levels instantly and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Obviously like any parent he left work a few hours early because any hospital visit means his son is on death's door, he stayed at the hospital with his son the next day as well, so we are talking about one day missed. What did this heartless company do? They fired him and told him he could come back when he got all this straightened out. STRAIGHTENED OUT?! What do you expect?! The kid to have a miraculous healing?! WHAT IF THIS HAD BEEN YOUR KID?!?! You wouldn't fire one of your family members for this. You can't treat people like this and to think I almost used this company upon recommendation of my friend but screw them! Way to be supportive of your fellow man, kick em and kick em good when they are down. I am not the person who was fired just an outraged human being and I will do what I can to make sure people know. Because if you treat your own employees like this, then how little you must feel towards your customers.

Hello June, I have been watching them closely for a little over a year now. Most settlement companies are really bad news for consumers and I initially thought New Era although, better than most, was still similar. In fact I wrote a review about it over a year ago and Dan Smith (New Era Owner) and myself tangled a bit in the comments of that review. After a year of watching them do things that really showed they put their consumers first in my opinion, I had the chance opportunity to meet Dan and Alex Viecco (co founder) in person, and learned a lot about their program, their intentions, and how they work with their clients. I changed my initial opinion of them and wrote an updated review @ http://damonday.com/3169/new-era-debt-solutions-a-second-look-in-this-new-era-of-debt-settlement/. Keep in mind that Debt Settlement is an aggressive solution and not right in all circumstances. However if you have thoroughly reviewed and explored all of your options and you have concluded that a settlement approach is your best strategy to move forward with, and you feel that it would be in your best interest to hire a company to assist you with that, then New Era is one of only a small handful of companies that I feel comfortable telling my clients about. It is always a good idea to call several companies and compare them before making a final decision. Hope that helps.
